As technology evolved and the PC became a standard piece of equipment in many homes, as well as the aesthetic pressure felt by competitor Apple, Microsoft wanted provide a more customized experience and also elevate hardware from functional tools into design pieces that integrate with individual environments. The newly available wireless mouse was a prime piece of technology to explore these boundaries with the consumer.
The Microsoft Mouse graphics and packaging project involved collaboration with their Hardware Industrial design division, and was a successful product for the corporation, which today still hosts limited edition artist series’ of mice. 1
